The Annual Scholarship Awards & Canton Gospel Music Celebration will return LIVE on Sunday, August 27, beginning at 5:00 pm, at the Greater Faith Calvary Church, 310 Railroad Street, Canton, MS. This celebration is sponsored by the Canton Gospel Music Association (CGMA) along with our local sponsors.
Each year, the Canton Gospel Music Association (CGMA) honors individuals who have made musical contributions to Madison County and abroad. Our Music Award Honorees and musical guests include recording artists and award winners Cynthia Allen, Percy Bennett, Ashford Sanders, Minister Lamar Campbell. In addition, other Music Award Honorees include Minister Jonathan Anderson, Minister Steven Harper, Pat Kessee, Greg Richards, Tony Richards and Louis Wright. Mayor William Truly will present his annual award to 103-year-old, John Henry.
Additional musical guests include recording artists The Canton Southernaires, Minister Marva Smith and Minister Gloria “GG” Warren.
One of the highlights of the evening is the awarding of scholarships to up and coming musicians to pay for music lessons and to support high school seniors. To date, we have awarded 158 music scholarships totaling over $30,000.00. We have awarded 4-$1000.00 music scholarships to high school seniors for 2023 and will award 8 more at the awards program.
“It is fitting that Canton with its rich heritage, deep spiritual roots and strong church affiliations hosts an event to honor one of music’s finest genres,” says Cynthia Goodloe Palmer, Founder and President of the CGMA.
